Rebuilding the Jones Library front patio

Rebuilding the Front Patio at Jones Library, 1977

Patty Bischoff helps to unload a heavy slab that is being used to rebuild the patio at the  Jones. This project was part of the landscaping redesign created by the Amherst Garden Club. The two men helping are Dave Meyers and Gordon Fletcher-Howell.

Pottery Arts and crafts at Jones Library

Another Original Jones Library Makerspace

The Amherst Art Center, directed by Stephen Hamilton, a well-known local artist, was hosted by the library from 1955 through 1980. Classes offered included this pottery class, poetry workshops, oil and watercolor painting, weaving, short story writing, jewelry making, and many others.

The Children’s Room at the North Amherst Library was home to this flourishing avocado plant donated by Nonny Burack. This plant eventually made its way to the main branch of the Jones Library where it lived happily for many years.

The Sunday at 5:00 programs were the pride and joy of Charles R. Green, first director of the Jones Library. Here he is on the right standing on the front steps of the Jones Library. Note one of the tools for marketing library programs beside him – a chalkboard! It advertises a panel discussion on civil liberties.
