The Jones Library’s first home was on the second floor of this large hotel (where Bank of America is now located). This image shows the smoldering scene the morning after the fire that decimated the hotel on the evening of December 9, 1926.

This is a photograph from the Jones Library’s Clifton Johnson Collection. Clifton Johnson (b. January 25, 1865) was a local author and photographer who travelled to every state and made four trips to Europe documenting life in each location visited by him.
